Why Former President Obasanjo Visited Ibrahim Babangida Revealed 

Former Nigeria’s president, Olusegun Obasanjo on 19th of January, visited former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) in his hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.

According to a source who is privy to the purpose of the visit, former president Obasanjo landed in Bola Ahmed Tinubu Airport in Minna and was received by some officials of the Niger State government who also accompanied him to the residence of Ibrahim Babangida where he they held a 30 minute closed-door meeting.

According to the source, Obasanjo visiting Babangida is linked to  national issues bordering on U.S government’s special interest in the country especially president Donald Trump’s determination to end hostility against Nigerian christians including through options that might be at the expense of the Nigeria’s national unity.

The source also claimed that the two former leaders discussed Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the urgent need to reposition the country politically in view of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s questionable economic policies and alleged political crass widely adjudged by the two former leaders as threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

“You should know that Obasanjo and Babangida can not just fold their hands and watch US government fight our wars for us. So I believe that the US interest in Nigeria is at the top agenda of the meeting”, the source stated.

“Also, the former leaders may not publicly show their displeasure at the current administration but in their private discussions, they are displeased with national leadership especially about the manner is being run, opposition parties being undermined. So the meeting is to discuss the way forward”.

 

The source also added that former president Obasanjo has emerged a  crusader of new Nigeria, hence the reason he met with opposition politicians a few days ago, mediating between members of the coalition party to ensure that the coalition party produces a formidable presidential and vice presidential candidates with national appeal and credibility.
