
Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the reports that the Nigeria’s Super Falcons are yet to received the monetary reward president Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised them.
The Super Falcons were aside being bestowed national honours, given apartments by Nigeria’s president for their winning the African Cup of Nations, were promised $100,000 each by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A few days after the Super Falcons emerged the African champions, their compatriots in basketball, the D’Tigress also won the African Nations Basketball Championship. They also received reward from the Nigeria’s president as the Super Falcons’.
However, several weeks have passed and the players are yet to receive the money the president promised them.
Hence, senator Shehu Sani through his X handle, appealed to the Nigerian president to expedite the release of the money to the players. Senator Shehu Sani described the federal government delay in releasing the money to the players as “shocking”. He argued that the players waiting anxiously for days for president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redeem his pledge to them, must be affecting the players mentally.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of gifting the players such outrageous amount of money for their winning the African Nations Cups, was widely criticized by Nigerians. The $100,000 for each of the players was considered outrageous by many especially in the face of Nigeria’s current economic and social situation.
The president was reminded by his critics of the numerous issues facing Nigerians and in which his outrageous financial commitment to the players would have been channelled to. He was informed about the numerous Nigerians in IDP camps; who were displaced from their homes due to insecurity or natural disasters such as flood.
Also, some men in the Nigeria’s military fighting insurgency, used the opportunity to inform the Nigeria’s president that they also deserve such a magnitude of national honour for their service to the country.
