Rotimi Amaechi Reveals How Obi, Atiku And Others Are Derailing ADC

Former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi has accused presidential aspirants in the coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) of derailing the party from focusing on its responsibility as an opposition party.

Rotimi Amaechi while speaking at a recent public lecture, accused the leadership of the opposition coalition party of focusing on flippant issues such as the zoning of the presidential ticket of the party rather than focusing on the underperforming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, the opposition party leaders are more interested in issues such as whether its the turn of the north or the south, negotiating power sharing while Nigerians eagerly pray for active opposition party to challenge the policies of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu which has inadvertently plunged them into poverty.

Rotimi Amaechi reminisced his role as the campaign director general of former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. He revealed that Muhammadu Buhari was able to win the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan because the opposition party understood the power of the masses and focused on the masses rather than on themselves. He warned that the opposition party’s leadership by focusing on themselves rather than the suffering Nigerians, is giving president Bola Ahmed Tinubu the leverage to return reelected in 2027.

He advised that the opposition party must identify with the masses who are already fed up with the Tinubu’s administration and let them understand that the power to remove Tinubu in 2027 lies with them. He added that it is the duty of the opposition party to build the angry masses into a powerful force to resist the ruling party manipulating the 2027 presidential election.

Rotimi Amaechi explained further that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is likely going to return reelected in 2027 if the masses are not motivated enough by the opposition party leading to voter’s apathy. According to him, in a context where the masses decide not to come out to vote, the ruling party will leverage the voter’s apathy and rig the election to its favour. Hence, the opposition party must realign from it current focus to proving to Nigerian that they have the capability to defend their votes and that their votes must count in 2027. He urged them to focus on being a credible opposition party rather than focusing on power rotation and who becomes the party’s presidential candidate.
