Kano Gov. Yusuf Speaks On Way Out Of Emirate Crisis Following His Defection
Governor Yusuf Abba Kabir’s defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) elicited concerns over the lingering Kano state emirate tussle, particularly the fate of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido II who appears to be enjoying the backing of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
With governor Yusuf Abba Kabir parting ways with Kwankwaso and aligning with former governor Abdullahi Ganduje under whose administration Sanusi Lamido was deposed as the emir of Kano in favour of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as well as the splitting of the Kano’s emirate into five different emirates, concerns over his future on the throne abound.
Alhaji Sanusi Lamido II was in May 2024 reinstated by governor Yusuf Abba Kabir’s administration while four other emirates created by the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje was dissolved. Despite the state’s government recognizing Alhaji Sanusi Lamido as the emir of the Kano’s emirate, the Ganduje backed Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero also enjoys the support of the federal government, plunging the state into lingering emirate tussle.
However, while speaking to journalists on Thursday, January 29th, the Kano state commissioner for information and internal affairs, Ibrahim Waiya revealed that governor Abba Kabir has initiated concrete steps that will bring about lasting peace to the Kano’s emirate tussle.
He allayed the fear of the crisis escalating following governor Abba Kabir’s switch to APC from NNPP, stating that the crisis will in no distant time be resolved amicably through dialogue, respect for traditional institutions, the will of the people of Kano state and in line with the principle of rule of law.
