Fubara Reveals Why Wike’s Candidates, Not His, Won The APC’s State House of Assembly By-election Tickets

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reacted to the controversy generated by the emergence of former governor Nyesom Wike’s loyalists as the candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Ahoada East constituency II and Khana Constituency II state House of Assembly by-election in Rivers state instead of his own loyalists.

Loyalists to the FCT minister, Napoleon Ukalikpen and Mrs Bulabari Henrietta Loolo won the APC tickets for the Ahoada East constituency II and Khana Constituency II respectively, sparking outrage among governor Sim Fubara’s supporters who had expected that the governor would claim the two house of assembly seats for his loyalists in the face of former governor Nyesom Wike’s overwhelming influence on the Rivers state House of Assembly.

However, governor Sim Fubara has now explained that Wike’s loyalists emerged the candidates of the APC for the house of assembly by-election because of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention. According to him, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu had instructed the leadership of the party in Rivers state to support Nyesom Wike’s nominees to emerge the party’s candidates for the by-election.

Governor Fubara added that he is following the president’s directive and in fact, supporting the APC’s candidates for the by-election.

He thereafter refuted reports that he is secretly sponsoring his preferred candidates in the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to him, the report is false and manufactured by mischief makers with the intention of creating disunity in the Rivers state APC.

““The APC in Rivers State is one family. What happened was that in the build-up to the primaries, the President (Bola Tinubu) intervened and asked everyone to support the candidates of the former Governor and Minister of the FCT (Nyesom Wike) for peace to reign.

“So if these candidates are members of the APC and we are all members of the same party, how can I be supporting the candidates of another political party? These are blatant lies from the pit of hell,” Fubara stated
