Popular Nigerian rapper, Jude Abaga widely known as MI Abaga has commented on the influence of internet fraudulence locally known as “Yahoo Yahoo” on the Nigerian music industry development.
While speaking on So Nigeria Podcast, Mi Abaga claimed that emergence of many talented Nigerian music artists into global limelight is due to the influence of internet fraudulence.
He claimed that most talented Nigerian music artists would not have succeed in the industry if they had not received fundings and sponsorship from their acquaintances who were into internet fraud.
According to him, these internet fraudsters rather than lavish their funds on frivolities, chose to invest in unknown artists with promising talents.
He added that his revelation should not be seen as a declaration of support for internet fraudsters nor encouraging it but a reality that should be said in the face of Nigeria’s leadership lack of interest and investment in talent development in the country.
He enjoined his listeners not to misconstrue his points nor interpret his claims beyond their face value because his intention is not to tarnish the country’s image nor indict his colleagues in the music industry.
He said: “I do not want to be misconstrued, but the truth is that the major source of funding for Nigerian artists, is Yahoo Yahoo. It’s not a good thing to our country’s name that a lot of Nigerians with music talent had to come into limelight through sponsorships from internet fraudsters.
” When we are criticizing these Yahoo Yahoo boys, let us also be mindful of the fact that many of them chose to invest their money in unknown artists rather than squander the money on frivolities.
“I do not support or encourage Yahoo Yahoo, that is, internet fraud but I believe we should be objective in our criticism”.
MI Abaga suggested that the country’s leadership is not committed to its citizenry welfare and self-actualization as obtained in many countries.
He lamented over the lack of interest from the Nigerian leadership in the entertainment and music industrial development in Nigeria.
