Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has revealed that the coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) is important to the 2027 general elections.
Peter Obi while speaking at a town hall meeting, emphasized the need for the opposition figures across political parties to unite and challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s faltering leadership.
He explained that he is committed to the coalition party and looks forward to the party becoming more formidable, its members and leaders united by the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from the bad leadership of the APC government. He said more prominent politicians across parties will join the coalition party in the future.
Peter Obi however noted that in as much as he is committed and loyal to the ADC, the purpose of the coalition party must be to offer good leadership based on accountability to Nigerians. He stated that if the ADC is obsessed with power grabbing rather than providing good leadership to the people, he will have no choice than to breakaway from the coalition.
He said: “I remain committed to ADC Coalition but only on the condition that it remains a coming together for the benefit of Nigerians and not for power grabbing” .
Peter Obi whose popularity among young Nigerians has been on increase, has declared his interest in the Nigeria’s presidential seat. He seeks the coalition party’s 2027 presidential ticket alongside with former vice president Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi who have also declared their ambitions.
Peter Obi’s supporters believe that he was the actual winner of the 2023 presidential election even though the official results by the electoral body– the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show that Obi came third with six million votes, behind former vice president Atiku Abubakar and winner of the contest, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His supporters not withstanding the official results, believe Obi was cheated out of his electoral victory and see 2027 as a veritable opportunity for him to reclaim his stolen mandate.
Former Secretary to the government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal in his recent interview on Channels Tv, also argued that Peter Obi won the 2027 presidential election.
